Recent legislation passed by Congress, I am told, does allow pilots to carry personal sidearms in the cockpit. But the airlines themselves prohibit pilots from doing so, because their corporate lawyers are afraid of getting sued, and probably also because airline executives are members of the plutocrat class who instinctively dread letting anyone other than their official guards carry guns.
